Review of Diesel Particulate Sampling Methods

Sponsored by the United States Environmental Protection Agency

A three-part series of reports prepared for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Reports are downloadable in PDF format.

  • Diesel Exhaust Particle Measurement Instruments (112KB)
Report one, titled "Diesel Exhaust Particle Measurement Instruments," reviews aerosol instrumentation used to measure diesel aerosol size distributions and provides a summary of the results from a survey of engine laboratories conducting such measurements.
  • Aerosol Dynamics, Laboratory and On-Road Studies (578KB)
Report two, titled "Aerosol Dynamics, Laboratory and On-Road Studies," reviews fundamental aerosol dynamics as well as on-highway and laboratory studies that have focused on determining the size distribution of diesel aerosol.
  • Final Report (489KB)
Report three is the final report. It summarizes the findings of the project, presents recommendations and suggests future research.
